Timber Types and Specifications.

The following is a brief description of the various timber types used in making the furniture we have on our site. As with any natural product there are varying colours and characteristics which we feel enhance the beauty of our furniture.

Western Red Cedar

Latin Name : Thuja Plicata                           

Sourced from British Columbia, Canada. 
The heartwood is a reddish-brown shade, running through paler red and dark yellow to the almost white sapwood. Pleasantly scented, light in weight and straight grained, it is very popular for exterior furniture use in Canada. 

Other uses: Light-weight constructional work, internal & external joinery, timber weather boarding, beehives, summer houses, conservatories, clear shingles for roofing.

Scandinavian Pine

Latin Name : Pinus abies and Abies alba

Sourced from Scandinavia and Russia, commonly known as White deal, common or Norway Spruce, its colour is white to pale yellowish-brown heartwood with a natural lustre. Carries some knots and is medium density.

Other uses: Furniture, interior joinery, flooring construction and packaging.

Reclaimed Pitch Pine

Latin Name : Pinus palustris/rigida

Sourced from reclaimed beams and baulks originally used in mills, schools and other buildings, and is typically over 100 years old when re-used. The heartwood is orange to reddish-brown in colour and resinous. The growth rings are clearly marked by the contrast between the light early wood and darker, more dense late wood, giving character to the wood.

Other uses: Heavy construction work, lorry and railway wagons, shipbuilding, spars, masts, exterior finish, flooring, dock work, decking, etc.
